Prince William Set to Attend UN Climate Conference in South America

The Prince of Wales will represent the United Nations climate conference in South America next month, as confirmed by the royal household.

Prince William and King Charles made a joint appearance on Thursday evening at a reception preceding the climate summit, which is set to be held in the Amazonian city of Belem.

The royal pair were in attendance at the Natural History Museum reception, marking an unusual joint appearance at a climate summit preparatory event arranged together with the United Kingdom administration.

Environmental Advocacy Dedication

King Charles has been a long-time champion of protecting nature - and Prince William has taken on the baton, with his own Earthshot awards, which will be taking place in South America ahead of the COP summit.

Royal sources have portrayed the Prince's participation at the upcoming climate summit as taking on an significant responsibility in "global climate discussions".

Recent Engagements

The King and Prince of Wales, making a joint entrance in the royal vehicle, were greeted participants featuring conservation experts, researchers, climate change campaigners, foreign representatives and government officials.

This participation involved presentations in concert with French leader Macron of France and other global statesmen at the Blue Economy and Finance Forum in the Principality of Monaco earlier this year.

Earthshot Awards Connection

The climate conference will dovetail with the William's personal climate innovation prizes, which will wrap up in the Brazilian city the eve of he attends the COP summit on November 6th.

Last week the prince characterized the prize competitors as "contemporary champions".

Monarch's Environmental Record

The King has been a key figure at previous climate summits, providing the introductory remarks in Dubai for COP28, including the reminder: "The Earth does not belong to us, we belong to the Earth".

"Throughout my life I've dedicated a significant amount of my life trying to warn of the survival risks challenging our world over planetary heating, environmental shifts and biodiversity loss," the monarch informed attendees.
