Bone Lake's Peculiar Conclusion Revealed

Viewers who are seeking a slasher-horror flick that offers dumb fun while causing discomfort, chances are Bone Lake is on your curiosity. This new chilling feature from filmmaker Mercedes Bryce Morgan debuted in theaters on Oct. 3 with an ridiculous concept and a suggestive title to match.

Heads-up: Plot details follow for the ending of Bone Lake.

A Blend of Humor and Horror

With a name like Bone Lake and an introductory scene featuring individuals dashing butt naked through the forest—only to be hit with a crossbow in sensitive areas—you'd be right there's ample humor throughout the movie. Moreover, the film's ending, which show the main couple battered and bruised yet chuckling madly together, exude a sense of macabre comedy.

It would be necessary to find something to smile at, as well, if you endured what the character Diego and the character Sage go through in Bone Lake. A duo full of relationship problems from the beginning—failure to talk, unsatisfying sex, an unfair burden of economic duties, and more—their relationship is put to the test when additional characters, the character Will and the character Cin, interrupt their love-filled retreat.

A Dark Turn

Seemingly at the start to be a contrast of opposites between the duos—Sage and Diego are awkward and blue-collar, whereas Cin and Will have a affluent, opulent way of life and are seen making out on any handy location—becomes sinister as the weekend unfolds. Cin and Will prey upon Diego and Sage's doubts in their partnership. They circulate falsehoods and talk about the opposite pair, stating to be aware of an affair and other internal drama.

All of these anxieties burst in the most extreme way imaginable when Sage and Diego find out that Cin and Will are not simply here at Bone Lake by chance: they are the owners and have been enticing pairs to the grounds in order to get them to cheat on their partners. For what purpose? Since Will and Cin are truly related by blood. Subsequent to their forbidden relationship was found out by their family and they were split apart against their will, they resolved to punish the world (including their parents). If the world turned against them only for their desired relationship, then they'll fight back at the society. Cin and Will's goal is to show a reflection to all the duos they eventually end up eliminating, in an attempt to demonstrate that their love is equally legitimate (or illegitimate) as the connection of these other couples they try to break up.

Unforeseen Resilience

However, what Will and Cin don't take into account is that Diego and Sage, despite their failure to talk with one another, truly love and cherish each other. It just took having a killer pair try to break them up and take their lives to realize it. Though it may seem grim, it isn't played that way. Bone Lake's style is leaning toward comedy than actual fear.

The film concludes with Sage and Diego joining forces to get away from Will and Cin's killer motives. Notably is that while, at the start of the film, you sense a vast divide in the partnership between Diego and Sage in comparison to Will and Cin, by the finale, Bone Lake turns it around. Cin and Will separate to chase Sage and Diego, but Diego and Sage are interacting improved now. They join forces to kill the character Will with a chainsaw. They then attack Cin, who dies horribly at the bottom of Bone Lake's pond—but only after Diego retrieves the engagement band intended for Sage that Will had taken and given to the character Cin.

Consequences

In the aftermath of their pair of slayings, smeared with bodily fluids, Sage and Diego sit together on the edge of a vessel. Ironically, this is the closest they've been since the start of the movie, since all their partnership issues have been exposed for both of them to see, and all they have left are their battered and bruised selves. As though to confirm their fresh bond and profound insight of one another, Diego moves closer to place the engagement band on the character Sage's hand and, when she looks to examine it in the sunlight, the two start chuckling.

It's not hard to see why: At the time, the character Will asked for marriage to Cin, it was a picturesque, affectionate instant. Whereas the character Diego follows suit for the character Sage, they've just escaped from a horrific ordeal. But still, Diego's marriage offer to the character Sage is not grounded in lies, just the awareness that they've survived the worst ordeal of their time and, after all that, they even now wish to spend the remainder of their days as one.

Director's Insight

But, as director Mercedes Bryce Morgan notes, the conclusion may not lead to a happy ever after for the couple.

"After enduring that circumstance with another person where you face a violent killing spree, how can you come out of that? What do you do as a individual? And so I wanted to capture all of the instants there as one where it's this elation of 'thank God' and 'are we receiving what we've always wanted, but what the fuck just happened? What the fuck do we do now?' Plus that set in of the situation of 'how does this affect for us {now|today|from
