One ranking policeman that leaped to the assistance of a partner who was ambushed by a knifeman was granted the Royal Recognition for Valor.

Sgt Tim Ansell fought with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown following he pressed a blade to the neck of his partner Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the officers and their colleague, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist after a road collision in that location in summer 2023.

Brown knifed and cut both Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft stunned him with a Taser.

"Officer knifed," PC Wolstencroft stated over his communication device.

Bodyworn and dashboard camera footage shared by the police department depicted Brown, who was dressed in dark clothing with a head covered, run up to Sgt Foster from the rear with a knife extended.

He ran into the officer who tripped and fell to the pavement, after which Sgt Ansell intervened and struggled to restrain him to the floor although being repeatedly struck with the weapon.

PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and awaited a clear shot, bringing the struggle to an conclusion.

Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "Can I get assistance on my throat now, I'm bleeding in the neck."

Sergeant Ansell received two deep cuts to his throat and additional cuts to his limbs and body, whereas Sgt Foster received knife wounds.

The department reported Sgt Foster utilized his palms to stem his partner's blood loss before medical personnel came.

The new honor comes after the trio of policemen won internal Bravery Awards in fall 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the local officer association in April 2024.

They further earned a Regional Valor Recognition in mid-2024.

"The efforts of the entire team eventually protected themselves and meant no bystanders endured any wounds."

Brown was sentenced to an psychiatric detention in April 2024, as stated by the department.
